ON cold winter days, this young couple, their two daughters and a
nephew huddle around a small propane heater that, even when coupled
with an electric furnace, isn't enough to heat their entire trailer.
Both parents suffer from disabilities and aren't able to work, so
making ends meet is a daily struggle for the family, which includes
8- and 11-year-old daughters and a 21-year-old nephew they have
taken in.
The family recently bought a trailer in a remote area of West
Virginia for $25.
"If you can imagine a trailer that cost $25, then you can imagine
the poverty this family lives in," their caseworker said.
