Jefferson officials must eliminate three "deal-busters" from their version of a consent order to stop the dissolution of their town before Kanawha County commissioners will support it.

Otherwise, the town officials' fate will be left in the hands of the state Supreme Court, to which they plan to appeal if they do not reach a compromise with the county commissioners.

Kanawha County commissioners on Thursday voted to table the matter until their meeting Jan. 10. Jefferson officials will meet two days before that to discuss the matter and make their decision.
