Despite $9 million worth of recent renovations, Charleston's Civic Center is still not being used as much as it should be, city officials said.

The city, the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Civic Center management are all pushing to get help for the Civic Center in an attempt to fill seats and increase revenue.

The city pays a $1 million subsidy each year to keep the facility afloat, and last month the city had to shell out another $35,000 to help make up revenue lost since Sept. 11.

The Civic Center is an important economic driver in the city, bringing in more than $8 million of revenue in the last five years. But from year to year, the revenues are not ...
