THIS 31-year-old mother makes the best of what she has and hopes
for a better life for her children.
She has children who are 8, 6 and 4 and twins who are 3. When the
husband walked out on his wife and kids five months ago, they were
left with no income. She filed for divorce and started the process
to get child support. But that won't amount to much.
"Her husband gets Social Security disability," her caseworker
said. "She is used to doing without, but she is not used to doing
everything alone."
The family is surviving on $559 a month from Temporary Assistance
for Needy Families and $546 in food stamps. She lives in a trailer
that was a gift from her father and pays no rent. ...
