LATELY I've been spending my evenings in the 19th century.
Don't worry. Delusion has nothing to do with these nocturnal
excursions. Neither do seances, time travel or heightened leanings
toward nostalgia.
No, my visits to the Victorian era don't involve anything nearly
so exotic - just fur and silk and feathers and steel, the components
of classic Atlantic salmon flies.
For years, I'd been fascinated by salmon flies' elegant, flowing
lines and bright colors. A few weeks ago, I set about learning to
tie them.
My research took me to libraries, where old dusty books revealed
