FMC has put two parcels at its East Plant site in South
Charleston up for sale and will market additional parcels as they
become available, a local real estate agent said.
The parcels are across from the Indian mound, between MacCorkle
Avenue and the Kanawha River. FMC's hydrogen and steam plants still
occupy a portion of the site.
The former East Plant site was the first to enter West Virginia's
"Brownfields" program, which is designed to help redevelop former
industrial sites. An Advance Auto Parts store was built on a lot
facing MacCorkle Avenue in 1994 and a Rite Aid pharmacy was built on
a lot facing MacCorkle in 1998.
About five acres of the plant property are still being cleaned up ...
