THURMOND - Coming soon to West Virginia's New River: catch-and-
release fishing for bass. Swayed by strong statewide support from
fishermen and local endorsements from fishing guides and tourism
officials, members of the state Natural Resources Commission have
voted to place a 12-mile section of the New under no-kill
regulations.
The regulations, which will go into effect Jan. 1, 2001, will
require anglers to release all smallmouth, largemouth and spotted
bass caught between the Interstate 64 bridge at Sandstone and the
National Park Service's Grandview Sandbar facility near Quinnimont.
