When the global accountancy firm Arthur Andersen effectively took
control of the established Edinburgh law firm Dundas & Wilson in
1997, it could have signalled the dawn of a new era for professional
services firms in Scotland. However, the jury is still out on
whether the multi-disciplinary practice - embracing accountancy,
law, corporate finance and other business services - is the model
for the future.
The alliance forged two years ago meant that Scotland's premier
law firm suddenly became a member of a law practice which, with 2400
lawyers, is the second largest in the world. This has given access
