Imagine all the people in Charleston packing their belongings and leaving Kanawha County, never to return. How many schools would have to close? How many services would be cut for the people left behind?

Kanawha County has lost more than 53,000 people since 1960, according to U.S. Census figures. That's about the number of Charleston residents today.
