Calvin Joplin accounted for more than 300 yards and four
touchdowns as Matewan, ranked No. 4 in Class A, easily improved to 7-
1 with a 46-6 home victory against Tug Valley Friday night.
Joplin, a senior Kennedy Award candidate, had 27 carries for 287
yards, including touchdown runs of 32, 4, 3 and 21 yards. He also
caught three passes for 32 yards.
In eight games, Joplin has rushed for 1,990 yards and 23 TDs,
caught 21 passes for 523 yards and five scores and returned five
kicks (three kickoffs, two punts) for touchdowns, giving him 33
touchdowns on the season.
John Marcum had the only score for Tug Valley (6-2) on a 66-yard
interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
