With American manufacturers producing more than 900 million gallons of ice cream annually, it's strange that this virtually unknown holiday (I became aware of its existence only because it was printed on some hokey calendar belonging to the features editor) has been overlooked for so long by greeting card companies and parade organizers nationwide.
