For the Gazette
As informed and culturally aware readers of a daily newspaper,
you know, of course, that today is National Milkshake Day. With
American manufacturers producing more than 900 million gallons of
ice cream annually, it's strange that this virtually unknown holiday
(I became aware of its existence only because it was printed on some
hokey calendar belonging to the features editor) has been overlooked
for so long by greeting card companies and parade organizers
nationwide.
To pay homage to an edible American cultural icon that brings
forth so many shades of nostalgia, so many pleasurable sensations
from the tastebuds, I went on a search for the best milkshake in the
Kanawha ...
