Like swallows returning to Capistrano, food fanatics return to
the
outdoors each spring and summer with their latest, greatest recipe
for brownies.
Brownies are the ideal picnic dessert. They don't require a fork,
spoon or even a plate. They remain fresh for days. And tastewise,
they may be the greatest dessert ever invented in America: a dense,
moist square bursting with the very essence of chocolate flavor.
I didn't realize how unique brownies were until a French friend
said that since coming to the United States to live, she has eaten
brownies at every opportunity. She has become a brownie connoisseur.
