Article: Visitors bureau salutes tourism

Tourism advocates crammed into a Buchanan County courtroom Tuesday to see who among them would be recognized for their contributions to the community.

The St. Joseph Convention & Visitors Bureau played host to its eighth annual Salute to Tourism to pay tribute to local tourism efforts and to promote regional travel.

Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes was invited to speak at the event where she touted the importance of promoting the region as an international travel spot instead promoting a single location.

"It is the region that we have to sell and when we talk about the region we talk about St. Joseph, Leavenworth, Lawrence and the Kansas City area," Mrs. Barnes said.
