Article: Lafayette's Burgess resigns as girls basketball coach

Jack Burgess will miss coaching girls basketball, but he won't miss the late winter nights or the long hours away from his family.

"I haven't had a lot of time with them," said Burgess, a coach in the Lafayette girls program the last 16 years. "The season is long and I haven't been able to do the things with my family that I wanted."

Burgess resigned Friday after eights seasons as head coach. The Fighting Irish were 75-103 during his tenure and 14-10 last season, losing to Maryville in the first round of the Missouri Class 3A, District 16 tournament.

He won't completely disappear. Burgess will continue as boys tennis coach - a job he assumed this year - and will also maintain his position ...
