Article: Real estate sales drop 25 percent since July 2000

Real estate sales in St. Joseph dropped 25 percent in July from the previous July and, so far this year, are down 7 percent from the same period in 2000.

St. Joseph real estate agents sold $12 million in July, compared to $16 million in July 2000, which set a record for one-month real estate sales.

So far this year, agents have sold $75 million in property, down from $80 million.

"It seems like it is a little slower," said RE/MAX agent Christine O'Rourke. "I attribute a lot of it to the terrible, cold winter and how we are having a very hot summer. I think people just don't want to get out and look at houses."
