Buchanan County residents will earn a few more dollars for
serving as jurors.
The judges of the 5th Circuit Court voted six to one to increase
the pay to $25 for jurors who hear a case.
Judge Bill Roberts was the lone voice of descent, saying that pay
should be more.
Serving as a Buchanan County juror currently pays $20 a day for
each day of a trial.
Currently, only Dallas County, a few miles north of Springfield,
Mo., pays serving jurors more, $50 a day, said Kelly Spiers, an
administrative assistant to the presiding judge.
Buchanan County averages about six trials a month, said Angie
Katakis, the court jury administrator.
