COUNCILLORS in Sedgefield borough are urging their political
party to call for a national referendum on the new forms of local
government.
Garry Huntington and Ben Ord, who are Liberal Democrat
representatives on the borough council, believe councillors across
the country should be asked their opinion on whether the changes
have been effective.
Like many authorities, Sedgefield Borough Council chose the
cabinet system of local government last year, and the pair believe
it has failed to improve the way things are run.
Now they are urging the Liberal Democrat Party to push for a
national referendum of all councillors, rather than holding local
public consultations.
