AMBULANCES throughout the region are to be fitted with navigation
systems to help improve response times.
Health minister Hazel Blears yesterday announced plans to improve
the country's 3,000 ambulances, at a cost of 3.4m.
All NHS emergency ambulance will be fitted with satellite
navigation systems by March next year, to tackle the problem of
crews being unable to quickly find addresses when they travel out of
their normal area. Ms Blears said: "Prompt intervention and
treatment by ambulance staff save lives, and the most effective way
to ensure that ambulance vehicles and controls have accurate
information on the location of callers is through satellite
navigation systems.
