PARENTS in County Durham have become so worried about an outbreak
of head lice that they are hiring their own private nurse to inspect
pupils' hair.
Chris and Amanda Robson, from Leadgate, began their campaign
after five-year-old daughter Tabitha contracted head lice three
times within weeks at Leadgate Infants' School.
The family blame the problem on the demise of old-fashioned nit
nurses visiting schools for checks of all pupils and today's
'limited' policy of advice for parents.
They are lobbying for a return of nurse visits, are trying to
educate families to make their own checks and have started raising
cash to hire their own nit nurse at 150 a visit.
