SHEA NEARY retained his World Boxing Union light-welterweight
title and left challenger Mike Griffith in a bloody heap in the
fourth round of their fight in Dublin last night.
It was an emotional night in and out of the ring for Neary, who
is
a Liverpudlian. Dublin is where his late father was born and it is a
city he has always wanted to fight. Two thousand Dubliners came to
support him as he finally got his wish.
Griffith entered the ring with confidence but this was slowly
reduced as Neary's relentless assault took its toll and left him
with
a nasty cut under his right eye and a small nick above his left.
As expected the fight was gruesome. Neary is not the type of
boxer whom youngs fans ...
