As we all know, Victor Kiam liked his Remington electric shaver
so much he bought the company. Times change, people move on and
now, it seems, Kiam's Ronson cigarette lighter is burning a hole in
his pocket.
This week the 70-year-old American businessman is expected to be
brought in as chairman of Ronson, so that he can apply his
personalised brand of sales spiel to help rescue the deeply
troubled lighter, watches and pen group.
Shareholders, the "men's accessories industry", the world and his
wife will be breathless with anticipation. Kiam, a gadget-loving
self-publicist, has made his fortune from appearing in his own
product advertisements.
