ARISTOTLE was once again in the news last week. The foundations
of his school, the Lyceum, which can properly claim to have been
the world's first university, have been uncovered by chance in
Athens, only 200 yards from the British embassy. There seems no
doubt that this really is the place where Aristotle walked and
taught. In fact "walked" is an important word where Aristotle is
concerned. The Lyceum featured a colonnade or peripatos (which
means in Greek a place where you walk about) where Aristotle was
accustomed to stroll while teaching his pupils. Because of this,
the Aristotelians came to be known as the Peripatetics.
Aristotle has seldom been out of the news these past 2,000 years ...
