Gerald Ronson is back. Last Wednesday the chief executive of Heron International hosted a sumptious lunch at the Savoy for 270 of Britain's most influential businessmen in a celebration that revived memories of a former era.

Ronson was surrounded by friends from four decades, including Sir Stanley Kalms of Dixons, Sir Geoff Mulcahy from Kingfisher, Coats Viyella's Sir David Alliance, Professor Sir Roland Smith and Sir Trevor Chinn from Lex Service as well as the grandees of the banking and property industries.
