Article: International: Ratko Mladic cancels all his shopping trips

ONE day last week in Belgrade a short, bulky man with an overhanging gut, close-cropped grey hair and a thick neck was spotted wandering around a shopping centre, looking in the windows.

Around him were, according to the witness who tipped off the press, at least four bodyguards: taller, younger, less paunchy versions of their boss. All were armed. Few passers-by greeted him. Ratko Mladic, the former military commander of the Bosnian Serb forces, is best left alone.

It was a big week for Ratko. Friday was the second anniversary of the fall of Srbrenica; he besieged it, captured it, reassured its inhabitants, then ordered the mass murder of the boys and men. Maybe Mladic is psychotic. I once ...
