SCOTS are laying claim to the Coronation Chair in Westminster
Abbey only a week after the historic Stone of Destiny, brought
south of the border by Edward I seven centuries ago, was returned
by the English to its rightful home.
Virginia Wills, a Scottish historian, has triggered debate over
the Chair's origins by her discovery of a book written 300 years
ago by a senior member of the College of Heralds. Mrs Wills claims
it shows the Chair is much older than previously thought.
The chair, used for the coronations of a long line of British
monarchs, of whom Queen Elizabeth II is the latest, was built
around the Stone of Scone. The stone was sent back to Scotland
eight days ago in an operation ...
