FIRST came news of a blood-lusting "goatsucker". Then an
announcement that life had been found on Mars. A garment said to
have been worn by Jesus on his way to the Cross was displayed in
Germany, and from New Zealand came reports of a new craze for
taking domestic appliances for a walk.
It has been a weird year. One of the strangest in history,
according to Joe McNally, an editor of Fortean Times, who has spent
six months compiling a book, Weird Year 1996.
Mr McNally, 28, includes hundreds of reports of monster
sightings, UFO reports, religious visions, apparitions and
predictions, together with a round-up of outlandish human
behaviour, outrageously good and bad luck, inept crime and strange ...
