THE US-style drug courts which are planned for Scotland are a
good idea and should work, according to Neil McKeganey, Professor of
Drug Misuse Research at Glasgow University. Here he explains why
they can be effective but insists their success depends on everyone
involved having proper training.
A new approach to tackle Scotland's drug problem has just been
heard in the Scottish Parliament .
Drug courts are widely used in America and are now being
considered for Scotland. Recent research has shown that around 70
percent of people arrested in Scotland have used illegal drugs and
that drug use is at the root of many of the crimes that are being
committed in this country.
