Gary Neville is the latest member of English football's
cognoscenti to join the Joe Cole fan club. Indeed, the experienced
Manchester United and England defender is so taken with the dazzling
ball skills of West Ham's precocious midfielder that he marks out
Cole, 19, as a world class player of the near future. All this, too,
on the eve of today's FA Cup fourth-round tie between the clubs at
Old Trafford.
The tribute is typical of Neville, 25 and one of the most
intelligent, honest, articulate and obliging footballers playing the
game. As such, the elder of the two United brothers simply cannot
hide his astonishment at the level of skill Cole has demonstrated as
