FIRST BLOOD to England, then. On a weekend when two of the
Heineken Cup quarter-finals pitched English clubs against their
Welsh counterparts, it was Gloucester who made the most emphatic of
statements. If Leicester can do the same against Swansea this
afternoon, then England will travel to the Millennium Stadium to
face Wales in good heart.
This was a crazy old match. For much of the game the rugby was
wretched, error-strewn and lacking in imagination. It did not
detract from the occasion, though. Kingsholm fairly rattles when the
Anglo-Welsh fixtures come along and the support and knowledge of the
Gloucester crowd was as sound as ever.
