ONE Libyan stabbed himself to death, and another was seriously
wounded in apparent suicide attempts in Tripoli yesterday, during a
huge demonstration organised by Col Gaddafi's government to protest
against the conviction of one of his intelligence agents for the
Lockerbie bombing.
As the Libyan leader sought to exploit differences between London
and Washington over future economic sanctions, tens of thousands of
protesters massed in Green Square in the heart of the capital. They
were demonstrating against "American political influence" in the
outcome of the Lockerbie trial on Wednesday.
