NTL, Britain's leading cable company, has made an all-share offer
for ITV Digital, the digital television operator owned jointly by
Carlton and Granada. A deal would confirm NTL's position as one of
Britain's leading communications groups and enable the two
television companies to escape from the serious losses being
incurred by their digital offshoot.
Barclay Knapp, chief executive of NTL, was seen visiting ITV
Digital's headquarters in Battersea, south London last week.
Television executives say he was there for high-level talks with
Stuart Prebble, the chief executive of ITV and ITV Digital, who is
