Alex Tudor and Robert Croft are set to replace Graham Thorpe and
Dominic Cork for the third Test at Trent Bridge. No matter what
England's revised objective - damage limitation or a pie-in-the-sky
attempt to win the last three Tests and thereby regain the Ashes -
England need an extra bowler for the flattest pitch of the series.
Otherwise Australia could score 800, or 1,000.
Tudor bowled fierily against Australia in the first of his three
Tests, and scored 99 not out against New Zealand in his third in
1999, even if he has not done a lot since then in county cricket. Of
all the possible pace bowlers, he and Cork are the only ones who
could bat as high as No 8 - and Cork's Test match game ...
