Best reason to stay
A phoenix risen from the shell of the former sultans' residence,
almost destroyed by fire in 1910, the lavishly restored Ciragan
Palace offers a taste of Ottoman opulence on the banks of the
Bosporus, with a five-star modern hotel in its landscaped grounds.
Best room
At almost 5,000 sq ft, the Sultan's Suite claims to be the
largest hotel suite in Europe, with two huge bedrooms (one of the en-
suite bathrooms has a circular marble bath big enough for two), a
vast reception room and sundry anterooms. Those who balk at the
pounds 8,357 room rate (unlike, say, Helmut Kohl or the Duchess of
York) might be better off in the main hotel - you won't have 24-
hour butler service, ...
