"IN CIPRO we trust." Since October 15, the words of Tom Brokaw,
the anchorman of NBC Nightly News, have reverberated around America.
NBC Nightly News - one of the most popular news shows in the US -
had become the news. Brokaw's assistant had tested positive for
anthrax after handling a letter addressed to one of America's best-
known TV presenters.
Holding a bottle of Cipro, Brokaw, who has anchored the show
since 1983, assured America that Cipro will "get me through this".
It was the ultimate product endorsement for Cipro - or Ciprofloxacin
- an antibiotic manufactured by Bayer, the German pharmaceutical
group.
