THE ROYAL British Legion has put an extra 10 million poppies on
sale after the charity's fundraisers reported that the war against
terrorism has increased public awareness of the sacrifices made by
members of the Armed Forces.
Millions of the poppies originally manufactured for next year's
Poppy Appeal were being sold this weekend because of the demand. The
Legion, which provides help for former Service personnel in need, is
expecting to celebrate its 80th anniversary by exceeding last year's
Poppy Appeal total of pounds 20.1 million.
Legion volunteers said many people buying poppies mentioned the
involvement of British troops, sailors and air crew in military
action in Afghanistan. This ...
