DISRUPTIVE teenagers are to be sent out of school to study pop
music and television under new Government plans designed to stop
them drifting on to the dole queue when they leave.
Ministers will announce in the autumn that a network of studios
will be set up in which youngsters of 14 and older will be able to
learn the skills of the pop, film and television industries.
One objective is to give them practical training which will equip
them for possible jobs in what are expanding, multi-million pound
businesses.
The other aim is to help prepare the pupils - many of whom are
likely to be regular truants - for employment by giving them an
incentive to turn up regularly.
