We might not have rush hour in Dubuque, but that doesn't mean we
don't have rushed drivers.
Half of those surveyed in a recent national study said rushing to
their destinations is why they run red lights, according to a
highway official.
"Based on my experience, when drivers are in a hurry and see a
light that is changing to yellow, they have a tendency to speed up
to make it on the yellow," said Bobby Blackmon, Division
Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration.
"The problem is that the people in the other lanes are also in a
hurry and can see the light changing. One direction you have someone
stretching the yellow and in another direction drivers are getting a
