EAST DUBUQUE, Ill. - It was payday in East Dubuque on Saturday, and the Warriors' defense collected.

The defense pressured Freeport Aquin with 10 sacks in a 28-13 victory in the Illinois Class 1A state quarterfinals. The Warriors will play Sciota Northwestern, a 35-7 winner over Lexington, Saturday in the semifinals.

"I told defensive coordinator Bill Reisen 'You're earning your paycheck today,'" East Dubuque coach Darren Sirianni said.

"Our defensive coordinator wants us to be really aggressive," Warrior Nick VanOstrand added.

The Bulldogs threatened early.

On their first play from scrimmage, Bulldogs quarterback Matt Hintz hooked up with Paul Newberry for a 27-yard strike into Warrior ...
