Article: gillian REFUSED TO LET CANCER AND THE AGONISING AMPUTATION OF HER LIMB HOLD HER BACK; I LOST A LEG, NOT A LIFE

AS she welcomes me into her home, I find myself staring at Gillian McBain's legs. I am not trying to be rude but simply looking to see if I can tell which one is not real.

It's a difficult challenge as Gillian is wearing navy tracksuit bottoms and a sunshine yellow training top. As she leads me into her living room I can only detect a slight limp and I'm not even sure which leg is causing it.

Fortunately Gillian either doesn't notice my prying eyes or she is too polite to mention that she caught me having a good look.

But for my benefit, she quickly points out that it is on her right leg she wears her prosthesis, her left leg is all her own.
