A FAMOUS Glasgow park will undergo a (pounds) 3.5million facelift in a bid to restore it to its former glory.

Council bosses unveiled detailed plans to breathe new life into crumbling Elder Park, once the pride of Govan.

The 37-acre Victorian park, gifted to the community in 1885, has become a haunt of gangs and vandals in recent years.

A council survey found 70% of local people visited the historic park every day - but 64% thought it was the scene of gang fights and 83% feared for their personal safety when they were there.

Now council bosses want to return the park to its glory days by restoring original features and building new attractions.
