MOTOROLA staff in East Kilbride face a bleak Christmas after the
hi-tech giant warned it was cutting 9400 jobs.
The company confirmed 4000 of the worldwide cuts would be in its
semiconductor operation, which employs 2000 at East Kilbride and 600
at South Queensferry.
The grim warning comes as the American firm battles multi-
million pound losses.
Motorola axed 3100 jobs at Bathgate plant earlier this year. A
total of 9000 jobs have now been cut or put on hold by inward
investors in Scotland this year.
Stunned workers at East Kilbride heard the news as they prepared
to start their last shift before Christmas.
