FORTY patients who should no longer be in the state hospital of
Carstairs cannot be discharged due to a lack of outside support.
A report today blames the problem on opposition to planned local
secure establishments, dubbed mini-Carstairs units, from communities
across Scotland.
Opponents in Glasgow have been campaigning against plans to place
one of the controversial units in the grounds of Stobhill Hospital
in Glasgow.
But the report by the Scottish Health Advisory Service says there
is an urgent need for more local services to allow the patients to
be discharged.
