The Duxbury Rural and Historical Society will host an orientation session at 1 p.m. Saturday for volunteers interested in helping with the society's upcoming archaeological dig.

Archaeologists plan to dig next month on a Chestnut Street site, looking for the foundation of the Second Meeting House.

The society believes that the First Meeting House, built around 1637 on what is now a cemetery, was replaced by the Second Meeting House, just to the east of the cemetery, around 1706.

The Second Meeting House was the center of Duxbury's religious and secular affairs for nearly 80 years. It was replaced by the Third Meeting House, which was built in 1785 on Tremont Street.
