Holidaymakers and business travellers departing from Exeter
Airport came face to face with more than 100 heavily-laden Royal
Marines and Royal Navy medics in desert combat fatigues.
The Devon-based troops arrived at the airport before dawn
yesterday, bound for Afghanistan on an Air Slovakia charter flight
which took off at 8am.
They attracted plenty of attention from bleary- eyed passengers
waiting to check in for the 6.30am flight to Paris and the 7am
departure to Minorca.
The troops from 3 Commando Brigade, Royal Marines included
elements of 42 Commando, based at Bickleigh Barracks near Plymouth
and the Brigade Recce Force.
