Former Land Army girls will be recognised for their work during
the Second World War at an afternoon tea this week.
The Lord Mayor of Exeter, Coun Paul Smith, will present
certificates to 56 ex-Land Army members from all over Devon at the
event at the Guildhall, Exeter, on Wednesday afternoon.
It is all part of a nationally driven project to properly
recognise the work of the Land Army during the war.
With the country at war and all able-bodied men needed to fight,
there was a shortage of labour to work on farms and in other outdoor
jobs.
