The new Star Market in Chestnut Hill will be environmentally friendly and feature a marketplace layout and a menu of premade and ready to cook foods for busy families, supermarket officials said at the store's groundbreaking Wednesday.

The closing of the old Star Market for renovations, coupled with the shut down of the nearby Omni Market two years ago, has inconvenienced area residents.

However, Bill Nasshan, senior vice president of marketing and merchandise for the combined Star Market and Shaw's Supermarkets company, is optimistic that the new store's features would win back customers when it opens next summer, despite the long wait.
