SAN LEANDRO -- Ursula Reed describes herself as a ''fresh, new
voice'' in San Leandro politics who hopes to defeat Linda Perry in a
runoff race Nov. 4 to replace departing District 2 City Councilwoman
Surlene Grant.
''I haven't been a politician before,'' Reed acknowledges,
pointing instead to her 14-year San Leandro residency, along with
community activities in San Leandro, Hayward and Oakland.
Reed, 44, is campaigning with an endorsement from Grant.
But, Reed is in a tough race with Perry, 56, a longtime San
Leandro resident who touts her experience starting as a teenage
appointee to the San Leandro Youth Advisory Committee.
