LYNN
SCHOOL CHIEF RETIRING - School Superintendent Nicholas P. Kostan
announced his retirement to the School Committee last week. Kostan,
59, became head of the 14,000-student school district in 2002. Over
a 38-year career in the Lynn schools, Kostan was a teacher and an
assistant principal before being named principal of Breed Junior
High School and Classical High School. He was named a deputy
superintendent in 1999. Kostan plans to retire in January. The
School Committee has not announced a plan to choose his successor.
