JOHN McCAIN and Barack Obama traded blows over the failing US
economy as they went head to head last night in the second
presidential TV debate.
But despite a more aggressive approach by Mr McCain, with
repeated put-downs, he failed to deliver a knock-out blow.
A snap poll of undecided voters by CBS News immediately after the
debate suggested that Mr Obama had comfortably won. Thirty-nine per
cent of 400 voters said Mr Obama was the victor, while 27 per cent
gave the contest to Mr McCain.
Even more alarming for Mr McCain was that 68 per cent of the
uncommitted voters surveyed said they now felt Mr Obama would make
the right decisions for the country on the economy. The figures will
