Tonight marks the opening of Christchurch's Repertory Theatre Company's 400th production.

84 Charing Cross Road is James Roose-Evans' 1981 adaptation of Helene Hanff's 1970 book about the friendship that developed between her and Frank Doel, the chief buyer for Marks and Co (the antiquarian bookshop housed at the title address).

A New Yorker, Hanff was on the hunt for obscure classics and British literature that Doel did his very best to track down for her.
